If you’ve ever dreamed of ticking off both Europe and Africa in one go — this is your moment. Spain and Morocco are separated by just a short ferry ride, yet worlds apart in vibe. At Indigo Expedition, we specialize in stitching these cultures together into a single, seamless travel experience. This guide will show you how to plan it smartly, and what to expect along the way.
Why Combine Spain and Morocco?
A trip that starts with tapas in Seville and ends with mint tea in Marrakech? Yes, please. Combining Spain and Morocco gives you rich architecture, vibrant street life, flavorful food, and a warm welcome — times two. And here’s the kicker: logistically, it’s easier than most people think.
Where to Start: Spain or Morocco?
Start in Spain if you prefer to ease into your adventure — good infrastructure, familiar comforts, and lots of culture. Start in Morocco if you’re craving color, spice, and a deeper cultural shift from the get-go.
We recommend starting in Barcelona or Madrid, moving south through Granada, Cordoba, and Seville, then crossing to Tangier by ferry from Tarifa or Algeciras. From there, move into Chefchaouen, Fes, and finally Marrakech.
The Ferry: Europe to Africa in Under an Hour
Many travelers overthink this — but the ferry is simple and efficient. The shortest route is Tarifa to Tangier Ville (60 minutes), with multiple crossings daily. You’ll go from cobblestone streets and cathedrals to medinas and minarets, in less time than it takes to order lunch.
Pro tip: We handle this for you. Ferry tickets, pickups, border tips — done.
How Many Days?
To really feel it, give this trip 10 to 14 days. Here’s a quick split:
Spain (5–7 days): Focus on Andalusia – Seville, Granada, Cordoba. Optionally add Barcelona or Madrid at the start.
Morocco (5–7 days): Tangier, Chefchaouen, Fes, Marrakech – with or without the Sahara.
Shorter? We’ll condense it. Longer? Let’s add desert glamping or a food tour.
What About Language and Borders?
Spanish is widely spoken in Spain (obviously), but in Morocco, expect Arabic, French, and Spanish near the north. English gets you by in tourist areas. For borders, you’ll need a passport with at least 6 months’ validity. Visas depend on your nationality — but for most Western travelers, it’s visa-free.
Why Book With Indigo Expedition?
Because we’ve done this loop more times than we can count. We don’t sell trips — we build them, like a friend would. You’ll get real guides, boutique stays, cultural moments (not tourist traps), and a local team in both countries.
